Technical Specifications for Woven Gabions

• Woven hexagonal mesh (double‑twist) - Woven gabions are made from double‑twisted hexagonal mesh. In this weave, one wire is wrapped twice around the adjoining wire, which is why it’s commonly called “double‑twist.” This construction delivers high durability while providing the flexibility the structure needs.
• Mesh aperture: 8 × 10 cm - An 80 × 100 mm aperture strikes a balance between the most common welded gabion mesh sizes: 50 × 100 mm and 100 × 100 mm.
• Wire diameter: 2.7 mm - A 2.7 mm wire highlights the stone and visually reduces the bulk of the steel structure—an effect that’s desirable in most applications. 
• Coating: GALFAN Zn (95%) + Al (5%) - Galfan, a zinc–aluminum alloy coating (95% Zn, 5% Al), is widely regarded as the highest‑quality corrosion protection for gabions. It offers excellent resistance to weathering, long service life, and minimal maintenance, making it ideal for demanding conditions.. TIP: We do not recommend PVC‑coated gabions, as this type of coating is not suitable for ensuring long‑term durability.

• Less suited to perfectly flat structures: If you need perfectly straight faces or exact geometric lines, welded gabions are the better choice because they hold crisp edges and straight lines.

Despite these drawbacks, woven gabions offer notable strengths—especially their flexibility and resilience to deformation caused by soil movement or hydrostatic pressure.

If woven gabions are assembled correctly and with care, they can look just as beautiful and maintain their shape as well as welded gabion panels or baskets.

Installing Woven Gabions

Woven gabions are supplied flat for assembly on site using fasteners, tie wires, or C‑clips. To ensure a neat, straight front face, always brace the face while filling—scaffolding tubes or other suitable spacers help the gabion keep clean lines.
